We found the land in 2022 after an extensive search, the ultimate landing place bordering 90,000 acres of National Forest near Chester Gap with direct forest access to the Appalachian Trail. At the end of the end, once you pass the main gate all worries melt away.

Our goal is to provide members with access to a sacred nature-dominant learning space dedicated to sustainable practices in energy and agriculture, with a firm focus on the arts and creative expression. We envision in-house residencies by noted and fledgling creatives who are dedicated to a better world, members coming to hike and spending the night by the campfire experiencing the songs of artists least heard, people young and old learning the art of gardening, canning and storage and why solar, wind and water are the source of all future energy.

We value our mission to build an intentional community and know it's not for everyone. Membership confirms our agreement to share our events and amenities with a collective of artists and patrons who share our mission of sustainability and an interest to participate. We offer the workings of a small forest farm in harmony with a hikers’ paradise that houses resident artists and practitioners and features their work along with discussions and workshops for participation. We also offer member parking access and safety to commune with the national forest and experience the Appalachian Trail.
At Magic Land Forest, we believe in the power of self-reflection to promote personal growth and well-being. Our philosophy is rooted in the principles of mindfulness, compassion, and sustainability. We invite members to join us on a reservation only basis in order to maintain the sanctity of the experience.
Magic Land is nestled in the heart of a lush Shenandoah Mountain forest on High Knob at Chester Gap, a .72 mile hike from the AT. Our retreat center is a sanctuary of peace and tranquility that offers an ideal environment for relaxation and rejuvenation with a planned- group focus.
We are inviting our many amazing artist friends, including Michael and Tanya of The War and Treaty, to spend time in retreat each year. These residencies will provide an opportunity for artists to reflect, rejuvenate, create, film, record, workshop, and perform while developing bonds with our members.
Taking what the forest offers and reimagining it as useful furniture art makes it that much more fun. Everything is for sale to benefit the retreat and this cat tree is the first of many more curious customizations to come.
We are literally faced with every task required to birth a forest retreat and every challenge that arises along the way! While we reserve time to get stuff done, if filming it can be a benefit to others we will do what we can and share our experiences especially where it concerns new products that help expedite the multitude of tasks. This is our first full length unboxing for the Stark USA 7 Ton Log Splitter. Stay tuned for the Landworks 3" Chipper and NeoTec 36" Chain Saw
The most defining feature of Magic Land is our regenerative forest farm, with its field of pure mineral springs. You will reap the healing benefits with every bite and each drop! We will offer immersive weekend retreats with guest farmers and naturalists to send you home inspired with the tools, seeds, and support to take sustainable farming to your neighborhood and community.
We hired Mike Stanley to clear the Solar Window and we will spend the Spring turning the trees into meditation platforms, observation decks and critical infrastructure for your use and enjoyment. Magic Land has no limits!
Last run home after plowing out the neighborhood, to the sound of Christie Lenee live at The Black Squirrel. Christie will be among the many great emerging artists who will establish annual residencies, workshops, and performances with us.
We have been pecking away at planning the transformations required to ready the property for guests and their activities and have made strides to clean up the spaces where we will construct the many amenities that will make spending time with us a magical experience. We will construct stages and meditation platforms, raised gardens, wading pools, pergolas, tree forts, and lookout towers!
From milling lumber to clearing and chipping brush or lending a helping hand with your interest in gardens, trail cutting and technical skills, we invite you to participate in the 2024 foundation of our new community. All labor and contributions will be matched with Magic Land credits toward event participation and activity fees. Oh and of course bragging rights for all you accomplish!
We will put you up in the Artist Airbnb that sleeps six or, if you prefer, we welcome you to camp in the forest with access to the kitchen and bath. In return we ask that you contribute just four volunteer hours for each day that you stay. We encourage you to spend downtime on the trails or just soaking in the mineral pools. To volunteer write to us at: magiclandretreat@gmail.com
